“The Sounds of Five Towns College” takes an in-depth look at music’s impact on the FTC community
FTC Mass Comm major Jace DeMarco’s senior project explores how Five Towns has cherished this universal language
Five Towns students and staff were treated to a special four-part podcast series in late April that explored the significance of music to their community. Jace DeMarco’s senior project, “The Sounds of Five Towns College,” aired on the FTC Sound Stream from April 20th to 23rd.
Each of the podcast’s four episodes delved into a different genre, from jazz to hip-hop to rock to musical theatre. The listening experience begins with a look at each genre’s origins, followed by a list of FTC events and programs to which the style has significance. However, at the heart of each episode are interviews with prominent Five Towns community members with years of experience and appreciation for their respective genres. Guests also contributed a song of their choice to serve as a musical interlude.
“As someone who’s passionate about music and communication, this project is the perfect way to merge everything I’ve learned at Five Towns College,” said Jace DeMarco. “Interviewing students and faculty to get insight about why they enjoy different genres is not only another way to immerse the listener, but a way to help improve my interview skills.”’
