FTC Campus Activity Board (CAB) celebrates Black History Month with Facts and Snacks

By Isabella Escobar

In celebration of Black History Month, the Campus Activity Board (CAB) hosted a “Black Leaders: Facts Snacks” tabling event in the Upbeat during Common Hour on February 4th.

“We wanted to do something to celebrate Black History Month. We have facts about certain black leaders, and we stuck them in little sweet snacks so people can take a snack and learn something about black leaders at the same time,” said CAB President and Theater Arts major Egypt Dozier.

Students were treated to the choice of delicious brownie or muffin, each paired with a fun fact and quote highlighting historical and iconic figures from the Black community.

Amaya Hall, a Theater Arts major, reflected on the event’s significance. “The importance of this is simply encouraging the education of other cultures. Black history is something that has had a very big impact on American history. Black people have brought a lot to the table, from art to science to even building the whole country. I feel like this is something to just pay homage to that.”

Also around campus, the FTC Sound Stream will highlight Black artists, and Campus Life will host a Black History Month Film series in The Downbeat. The event will offer a glimpse into the Black experience and spark discussions relevant to film themes and topics. The event is open to everyone and will happen on the following dates:

Tuesday, February 11th, from 8:30 – 11 PM
Thursday, February 13th, from 8:30 – 11 PM
Tuesday, February 18th, from 8:30 – 11 PM.
