Just Sixties recreates the sounds and songs of this amazing decade.

Break out your tie-dyed shirts, your bell bottoms and your paisley ties! Wave those peace signs high and free! And let flower power bloom again as you come to relive the music, the culture and even the news of the Sixties!

Is it the only decade that matters? That’s probably far from the truth, but what a far out idea!
Since their debut in 1982, Just Sixties, which features Kings Park’s Rob Gerver on drums, plus Donnie West on guitar and Marty Safran on keyboards and bass, have been doing justice to the music that changed the world. They may just be the longest continually running ’60s tribute act in the United States.

With narration to give the songs some context for those whose memories aren’t what they used to be and for those who weren’t even born yet, here’s a harmless—and, yes, legal—way to get a taste of what it was all about.

From folk rock to rock ‘n’ roll and soul, rediscover the Top 40 hits, the psychedelic classics, the protest songs, and the Motown ballads from the groups who played the soundtrack for one of the most transformative times the 20th Century ever saw.

Take a trip down memory lane with The Turtles, The Monkees, The Byrds and, of course, The Beatles! And that’s just a few of the groups from this magical menagerie. They also cover the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Sonny and Cher, and Cream.

This 90-minute show is good, clean family fun, so put on your granny glasses—if you still have them—and wear some flowers in your hair as you join Just Sixties with their crowd-pleasing versions of “Build Me Up, Buttercup” to “Sweet Caroline”—to name just two favorites.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you’ll have “fun, fun, fun” until (maybe) they take the T-bird away, but in the mean time Just Sixties promises you’ll be “glad all over” and “happy together!”

And considering they might perform their heartfelt tribute to Mamas & Papas’ “California Dreamin’” on such a winter’s day, why not go back in time!

It’s going to be groovy, baby!

Just Sixties, Five Towns Performing Arts Center, 305 North Service Rd., Dix Hills, 631-656-2148; $25, $30, $35; 2 p.m., February 8
