LIVE BLOG: Great South Bay Music Festival Day 2

FTC Bloggers Fernando Gomez and Frank LaPinta follow the music, fun, and behind-the-scenes action at Shorefront Park in Patchogue, New York.

8:00 PM

As the sun begins to lower over the Great South Bay, some boats pulled up to hear the evening’s music. No festival ticket required!

7:30 PM

Dozens of vendors are here- another reason why the Great South Bay Music Festival is a great event to attend. All around you can buy clothes, jewelry, hats, and home items.  The festival boasts unique vendors such as a vegan fashion store selling handbags, wallets, and backpacks made out of cork. “We started the day very nicely. The volume’s there, everything is fun. We feel like we fit in,” said salesperson Tristan G.

FTC Day 2 Guest Blogger Stephanie Schneider checked out Badfish on the Voodoo Main Stage. The band has long been considered a top tribute band to Sublime however has made their own music mark while maintaining a “Sublime essence.”

Badfish fan Bob Boster says he’s here to see this band and “has been to the Great South Bay Music Festival more times than he can count.”

Nature Break!
In between performances at the Five Towns College Stage, some local wildlife pulled up in the water to Shorefront Park to get a closer listen to the booming music and sounds of fun filling the park.

Who’s hungry? This year’s lineup of food vendors includes festival standard hot dogs, chicken tenders as well as some interesting food combos, such as burgers with waffles for buns. The food area is right next to our Five Towns College Stage setup with a tented dining area sponsored by Jake’s 58.

One special crafty stand called Tashana’s Kitchen is cooking up creative combinations like shrimp and crabmeat on mac & cheese in the shape of a cupcake. Creator Tashana Small talked about her delicious invention, saying, “I created these mac & cheese savvy cupcakes, your basic southern mac & cheese. I just created them in the shape of a cupcake and then decided to create something called mac & cheese cupcakes with toppings.  Its top are basically all of the things that people love with mac & cheese such as pulled pork and a lot of seafood options.”

The gates are open, and crowds are lined up on Smith Street.  The FTC Record spoke to the first person on the line, Dylan Thompson, who said, “I’m excited to see Streetlight Manifesto.” The band has been together for twenty years and is “a high energy rock band with more horn players than traditional rock instruments, with influences from Latin, klezmer, folk, world funk, jazz and classical music blending into one cohesive sound.” The band is scheduled to take the Voodoo Ranger Main Stage at 7:55PM.

Here’s today’s lineup at the Five Towns College Stage:

4:25 PM Samsara

5:45 PM Aqua Cherry

Before the music starts, the FTC Audio crew must perform soundchecks for the bands. “The soundcheck for Oogee Wawa went well. We mixed all their levels, and they should be good to go for their performance later tonight,” said Ben Gansle.  Take a look:
