The Downbeat turned into an enchanted garden filled with colorful balloons, tea lights, and ribbons to create the mood of this year’s spring formal on Thursday, April 10th.

The food spread matched the garden theme, as students munched on finger sandwiches, creme puffs, and chocolate-covered strawberries. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Five Towns party without the famous mocktails concocted by Assistant Dean of Campus Life Mike Cavalli. The party’s featured drinks were Pixie Dust (lemon-lime soda, apple kombucha, sour apple mix, edible glitter, and fresh green apple) and Enchanted (non-alcoholic ginger beer, seltzer, lemon juice, rose syrup, and fresh raspberries).

Despite the chilly April weather, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) was determined to stick to this event’s vibe. “So the wonderful members of CAB gave me very clear instructions, and that was very simply green, called Pixie Dust, and pink, called Enchanted. So, I kind of leaned into the theme a little bit,” said Cavallo.

The music selection was also dreamy and spirited, with songs like Love Story by Taylor Swift getting students in the mood to dance. “I’m having a great time, honestly, and the music selection so far has been good. We need to get some kind of line dance going so people actually get out there and start dancing and not just kind of vaguely jumping around,” said Musical Theater major Lily Genovese.

Attendees who were originally unsure about attending the dance ended up having a great night. “I’m having a blast. Honestly, I didn’t want to come tonight because I didn’t think It was gonna be fun, but I am having a great time,” said Music Audio major Maddie Haxton.

As the night came to a close, students lingered under the soft glow of fairy lights, reluctant to leave the magical atmosphere behind with full plates, glitter-filled drinks, and hearts just as full. As students head towards final exams, the Spring 2025 formal proved that a little enchantment and community spirit can turn any ordinary Thursday night into a fairytale.
