A trio of events enlivened the Upbeat Cafe on Earth Day, with the Rainbow Room hosting a bake sale and CAB [Campus Activities Board] hosting the final Open Mic of the semester in conjunction with an Earth Day celebration.
During this lively Common Hour, students gathered in the courtyard to soak in the beautiful weather and enjoy student performances as part of CAB’s Earth Day celebration. Attendees could get creative by painting small terracotta pots filled with seeds of their choice to bring a piece of Earth Day home.
“For this final Open Mic, we decided to do it outside and got really lucky on a beautiful day. We combined it with an Earth Day celebration, so you get to listen to students perform while you’re also able to paint a pot and plant some flowers,” said Student Activities Coordinator Natalie Allouche.
Indoors, the Rainbow Room held its bake sale, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Trevor Project, a non-profit dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth through mental health services. Everyone who donated was treated to a homemade cookie. Secretary Grace Bonamico said the group raised $173.
“This is a cause we firmly believe in, and it’s also a fun excuse to bake and share them here with everyone,” said Rainbow Room Vice President Maeve King.
