Pie for a Purpose: Five Towns College students raise money for Girls Inc.
Campus Activities Board fundraiser lets students pie campus leaders while supporting girls’ empowerment.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, Five Towns College’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) hosted a “Pie a CAB Member” fundraiser, giving students the chance to support a good cause and get a little messy in the process.
Students who donated $5 or more to Girls Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering young women to be “smart, strong, and bold.” Each $5 donation earned participants a full plate of whipped cream and the opportunity to throw a pie at one of several willing targets: Director of Student Activities Lindsey Meakem, Assistant Dean of Campus Life Mike Cavalli, or CAB officers Darrell Bryson, Adrian Alonso, and Demetrius Reveil.
From the start, students were eager not only to support the charity but also to take part in the fun.
“It felt great,” said Mass Communication Audio major Shaun Berry, one of the first to donate. “It was something I’ve definitely wanted to do for a little bit. Getting the chance to do this, and also getting the chance to donate to the amazing organization they’re representing, was just such a fun experience. I think everybody — not just to pie Mike Cavalli, but to pie anybody in CAB — should donate.”
The excitement wasn’t limited to those holding the pie plates. The faculty and CAB members volunteering to be pied were just as enthusiastic about helping raise money for Girls Inc., even if it meant getting covered in whipped cream.
CAB Vice President and Acting major Demetrius Reveil said the cause made the messy fundraiser well worth it. “I think the cause is amazing,” Reveil said. “It’s very worth it, very worthwhile. I would get pied any day this month for the beautiful, amazing women that we have in the world.”

By the time the final can of whipped cream was empty, the event had raised $255 for Girls Inc., helping a campus activity raise support and awareness for an organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of women.
