FTC New Student Orientation Q&A
Five Towns College’s New Student Orientation on September 4th was a success. FTC Reporter Jace DeMarco got the highlights on the day’s events.
Kaleeb Barrett- Orientation Leader
Q: What does an Orientation Leader do?
Basically, my job is to really get to know the students that we have here, the upcoming freshmen and make them feel welcome and comfortable being at Five Towns. I think my favorite part about this is really getting to know these new freshmen and getting to know some of their majors and really just sharing the same experience with them.
Q: What do you hope that new students get out of the orientation experience?
Honestly, I really hope that they truly know that there are people here who are willing to help them out and who are not afraid to step up to them in a friendly manner and just be like, “hey, if you need help or anything at all, you can just rely on me to get you through this.”
Cameron Maxwell- Musical Theatre Major
Q: How did you win Think Fast?
Me and my roommate teamed up. We were sitting around fifth place the whole game until the last round where we jumped up to first from that. And we got to the final round, and I just answered the questions. Some of the questions were like, “When did Oprah become a millionaire?” I was able to get them [the answers]. I got like five out of six to win the game.
Q: How are you enjoying orientation?
Oh, I love it. I’m having a blast. I love the campus, the whole environment. Everyone around here is so nice. And I love…I love New York. Coming from Texas, it is such a cool place to be.
Q: What are you hoping to learn from your major?
I’m hoping that I get the tools I need to go out to the real world and just, succeed in my craft of musical theatre, singing and dancing.
Adrian Alonso- Film & Television Major
Q: How are you enjoying orientation?
I think things are going pretty well. You know, it’s very informative. Hearing from all the professors and different faculty, it’s very nice. And it’s also very nice to hear that you guys are very inclusive. I am looking forward to meeting new people, and honestly, getting to explore the campus.
Q: What are you hoping to learn from the Film & Television program?
I’m looking to get more experience just with the camera, because I do have a YouTube channel that I made short films with. And I’m looking to create more content that people know, and that people can relate to.
Jordani Chacon- Mass Communiation Major
Q: How are you enjoying orientation?
I think today is a great day. You just get to learn more about the school. It’s a great opportunity to just be able to learn about other people.
Q: What are you hoping to learn from the Mass Communication program?
I’m hoping to learn as much as possible to continue pursuing in my career. I want to be an audio engineer and work with a lot of people in different fields.
Michael Woss- Business, Music Entertainment Industry Studies (MEIS)
Q: How are you enjoying orientation?
I’m enjoying myself. I feel like I’m getting presented with quite a substantial amount of information, which I guess is somewhat overwhelming, but I think I’m digesting it. I feel like I’m definitely learning a lot and that so far, it’s quite interesting.
Q: What are you hoping to learn from the Business MEIS program?
So, I’m hoping to learn the business aspects behind running a business and the business aspect behind the music industry. My end goal for all of this is to hopefully, get a job like that, but ultimately, to open up my own record label and to make my own music. I’m trying to learn how to reach that goal. I’m quite excited for things to come.
