Mass Comm Mixes It Up
By Fernando Gomez
The Five Towns College Mass Communications department held its annual mixer on Tuesday, September 27th, during Common Hour in the Downbeat Café. Mass Comm Department Chair Holli Haerr and Professors Brigette Boyle and Rashika Williams informed students about academic, video, radio, and online production opportunities coming up in the Fall 2022 semester. Key procedures were also highlighted, such as reserving video equipment for projects.
The mixer was a great opportunity for new and returning students to get to know each other while enjoying a complimentary lunch. FTC Mass Comm student and photographer Sage Albanese took student headshots for The FTC Record Online so students can have their photos next to their published works. Everyone mingled, and some played games in the Downbeat.
Students seemed excited to see what the semester had in store. Sophomore Jeff Kramer said he has big plans for the semester. “As far as this semester goes, I’m looking to do as much in and for the Mass Comm department as possible, to further my talent prospects, work with all the other talented and capable individuals in this department, and broadcast to as many people as possible. This entire semester will be a very exciting one for Mass Comm, and I’m absolutely exhilarated to be a part of it!”
New students are also excited about the new school year. Transfer student Jose Rojas said, “Some big projects I have planned for this semester is to join the radio club and maybe even start my own show. I would love to talk about basketball, and I’m glad that I came to this mixer to meet people that share the same passion for communications.”
