Five Towns College livened up the Upbeat Courtyard on Wednesday with a Latin Street Fair event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th through October 15th. Common Hour was bustling with students and faculty who came for musical vibes and to enjoy authentic Latin food from Dominican Four, a family-owned business located in Farmingdale.

Joseline Canales-Lazo, IMA major, shared her enthusiasm about the fair. “I thought today was very fun. I love all the music, and the food was absolutely delicious. It was nice to see other people sing and be together. We’re all just expressing our cultures in many ways.”

In addition to the variety of delicious foods, FTC students performed original songs and covers that reflected the stories and culture of the Latinx community.

Lindsey Meakem, Director of Student Activities, emphasized the value of celebrating and sharing diverse cultures. “We want to ensure that our student body learns better about different cultures and is integrating our cultures as a whole, unifying us as a student body, despite our different cultures.”
