The holiday season at Five Towns College officially kicked off with its annual holiday lighting ceremony in the main lobby on December 3rd. The celebration began with a stunning performance by FTC’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
The Five Towns community looks forward to this event. “I love the tree lighting; it’s one of my favorite things here at Five Towns every year. I love seeing the campus come together and celebrate the holidays. There’s always great food, too. It’s a wonderful event,” said Theater Arts major Tryston Bellon.
Assistant Dean for Campus Life Michael Cavalli donned a white beard and Santa Claus costume. Cavalli Claus shared his appreciation for the ceremony, noting how it united the campus for the joyous event. “It’s such a great chance to come together with everyone at Five Towns. For me, it really invigorates the holiday spirit to be a part of this event and bring joy for everyone here.”
The spotlight was passed onto President Dr. David Cohen, who had the honor of lighting the Christmas tree, the Hanukkah menorah, and Kwanzaa kinara, marking a celebration of all three holiday traditions. Each of these traditional decorations was accompanied by an infographic for those who wished to learn more about the holiday. Following the lighting, students and faculty were treated to festive snacks.
Senior Mass Communications major Jeff Kramer expressed his gratitude for the occasion. “I love the tree lighting. It’s always a fun time. It’s bittersweet as it’s my last tree lighting at Five Towns College. I think it’s a really nice event, and I like how it’s leading into the Winter Wonder Jam tonight. We haven’t done that before. So I’m really excited, and it is time to get the festivity on here at FTC!”
As the Fall 2024 semester winds down, students should monitor emails and check @FTC_Events on Instagram for holiday-themed events.
