Blue Oyster Cult’s Buck Dharma awarded Honorary Doctor of Music degree at Five Towns College’s 52nd Annual Commencement
After the ceremony, the legendary musician stopped by the Gene Free Studios for a chat with FTC Sound Stream Host Jack Barton about his music and career.
During Five Towns College’s 52nd Commencement Exercises, Blue Oyster Cult member Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser was honored with a Doctor of Music, Mus.D. Watch the full graduation ceremony here.
A professional musician for almost 60 years, Roeser cut his teeth in jam sessions at Stony Brook University, turning those sessions into his first working bands Soft White Underbelly and Stalk-Forrest Group. The band now known as Blue Oyster Cult released their first studio album in 1972 and the rest, as they say, is history.
After the Commencement Exercises, Roeser joined Mass Comm student Jack Barton in the Gene Free Studios to talk about the early days of the band, Roeser’s decision to drop out of school to pursue music, and his advice for young musicians.
