Five Towns College falls into fair season

Fall is here, and with that comes fair season. Five Towns College got into the fall festivities with a carnival held in the Upbeat Courtyard on Sept. 21.
The courtyard was full of classic carnival games like ring toss and a balloon pop using magnets instead of actual darts. There was also an inflatable axe-throwing game with fake axes, of course. The games kept some students entertained much longer than they expected. “The games were definitely more fun than expected. My friends and I ended up playing some for hours,” said Mass Communication major Nature Langhorne.
Game contestants could win raffle tickets, and winners could choose from a variety of prizes, including surprise boxes, small room decorations, and more. Musical theater major Gabrielle Martin had her eye on one prize in particular.
“This was fun, even more fun that I got a Dr. Pepper noodle cup, ‘cause I’ve been wanting this for quite some time now,” said Martin.
Games weren’t the only activity. Inside the Upbeat, Director of Student Activities Lindsey Meakam did face paint and henna for students, earning rave reviews for her artistry.
“I was having an iconic time,” said Music Education student Amelia Mandato, who got unicorn face paint and a small smiley face henna design. “Lindsay is a creative genius, and I am a unique unicorn now.”
Some fair favorite foods were also available, including snow cones, popcorn, candy, and cotton candy. The snow cones came in several flavors to mix and match, including lime, cherry, blue raspberry, watermelon, and orange, while the cotton candy came in cherry, vanilla, and blue raspberry.
“It’s literally sweet,” said student volunteer Joel Rodriguez. “Literally and figuratively.”
The carnival offered students a break from classes and a chance to enjoy the beginning of the fall season with friends. With games, food, prizes, and activities spread throughout the Upbeat, the evening brought a little bit of the fair to campus.
